Dear Rosewood Community and Partners,
The team here at The Rosewood Initiative is taking COVID-19 and our responsibility to the community very seriously. After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to close the center and cancel gatherings until further notice.

Community Resilience
Digital Equity & Literacy Program

When COVID began and so many elements of life shifted onto digital platforms, it became clear to us that we needed to dedicate resources towards bridging the digital divide in the Rosewood neighborhood. We worked with the City of Portland to provide laptops, tablets, and free wifi to community members. We also partnered with MetroEast Community Media to train community members to become Digital Navigators.
The Digital Equity & Literacy program is a continuation of this work! The Digital Equity & Literacy (DEL) program, is made up of multiple avenues of engagement, including a 4 week course taught in partnership with MetroEast Community Media, culturally-specific cohorts, workshops, Rosewood Social Drop-ins, and more. These different program elements provide the opportunity for participants to engage in different ways and to learn important digital skills, so that everyone may feel confident in the digital world.

Rosewood Social
Drop-in
Hours
1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each Month
12:00pm - 3:00pm
Rosewood Social provides regular drop-in hours for community members to stop by Rosewood, connect with resources, learn about our programs, do arts and crafts, access books from Multnomah County Library, or use iPads through our Digital Literacy program. All are welcome!
Conversation Circles
_edited.png)
Conversation Circles bring the Rosewood community members together every month to explore various topics of interest that fall under Rosewood's work scope of Community resiliency, Economic Opportunity & Development, and Community Health & Wellness. On average, these circles receive an attendance of about 25 community members. Interpretation is always provided depending on language group. Conversation Circles also include our 4 cultural celebrations throughout the year, aiming to bring community members from all backgrounds together for culturally-specific celebrations.
Some topics for conversation for 2023 include:
-
Support with Taxes
-
Questions about health insurance, health insurance enrollment support
-
Small business support: Business Communications & Marketing ( Business cards, Online Business reviews)
-
Cultural Celebrations:
-
Dia de los Niños
-
Ramadan Celebration
-
Tihar / Diwali
-
Holiday Celebration
-
If you work for an organization with programs that might be a good fit as a conversation circle topic, please contact Azaria Coakley, azaria@rosewoodinitiative.org, with your conversation circle idea.

Rosewood Cares
Rosewood Cares is an annual resource giveaway event, staged as a market, giving Rosewood Community members the agency to handpick the resources. This event is made possible due to the large material donations we receive annually from KGW and Columbia Sportswear, and through our partnership with Community Services Network.
