Well, by now I’m sure that many of you have read the Willamette Week article that discussed some of the challenges facing East Portland. We participated to represent the Rosewood community and we are grateful to get feature story recognition in such a widely distributed paper. Many of us feel that the story could have highlighted the positive work that we’re doing and not just our challenges. The piece points out that our water cooler is empty and we have no menu. To me that means we are making great use of the resources available NOW. If you consider what we have done with so little money, we are exceeding any expectations or wildest dreams. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to our entire community. We have worked many hours with many different partners to “build our community together,” and we already know the good work we are doing IS making a difference. -Jenny

Decide what you think for yourself, and let us know or write to Willamette Week. We hope that this will rally more support for the great work that we’ve started.
Also, it’s crime prevention month! Check out events and trainings going on around the city: October Crime Prevention Events
One that is particularly relevant to us in Rosewood with our 162nd Ave MAX Station:
Forum: Public Transit Safety
Thursday, October 20th from 6:30-8:30pm
East Precinct, 737 SE 106th Avenue
Portland has a great public transportation system, but people don’t always feel safe riding it. This forum focuses on how to be safe waiting for, riding on, and exiting from buses and light rail. Bring your questions.
